2015 Recap and 2016 Goals

It’s still hard for me to believe that 2015 is over. It was big year for me personally and for us in our family. Among the list of things that happened in 2015 are: we sold our condo in Chicago and moved to Nashville, bought a new house, both Brett and I started new jobs, Adyson started daycare for the first time, I ran a half marathon and my 4th marathon, I found I’m pregnant again (it’s a BOY!), I started some side jobs/consulting (which I am LOVING), and we have another life change that might be upon us but unfortunately I can’t discuss it… yet (sorry! I really would tell you if I could).
Either way, it was BIG year full of a lot of change, excitement, anxiety, and beginnings.

So as I try to focus on 2016, my thoughts keep going to one word – calm. I would love for things to just calm down a bit, get into more of a routine, and have more time to just enjoy the moment. I’m not sure if that will happen as there might be some more big changes for us in 2016 (especially since we are adding a little one to the family) but we’ll see what we can do!

I have come up with a few things that I would like to focus on. Call them my resolutions or goals but they are something I really hope to accomplish and focus on during the year:

In terms of fitness, I want to work with weights more. Even though, I’m pregnant I can still exercise! It’s actually great to exercise during pregnancy and helps with those pains and aches plus aides in a smooth delivery. I am usually always motivated to go for a run but I would really like to build up some strength. I’m going to initially focus on working with weights twice a week.

Learn more about nutrition. I know a good bit about nutrition because I study it on my own and am constantly researching about this topic. There is always more to learn though and it’s always changing! I want to stay very up to date on the latest science behind staying healthy and apply this in the kitchen through cooking and sharing with you.

Go on more dates with my husband. It’s so easy to just get in PJ’s, hang out at home, and not go anywhere. But we live in a great city and love going out to new places so I would really like to make more of an effort on this. My parents are very generous in offering their babysitting services so we really have no excuse!

Do more with friends. I have some great friends here and in other places that aren’t that far away! I want to plan a fun getaway and just in general, catch up with them more and meet for a meal, coffee, or just at someone’s house. These relationships are so important to me.

Be more present. This is a tough one for me and I hate to admit that. My mind is always going so fast and I am a busy body so I constantly need to be doing something. I want to make sure I prioritize my time though and live in the moment. I need to make sure I am truly present wherever I am and not worrying about the next thing I need to do. This one might take some work!

Start a side business. This is already in the works for me but something I’m really excited about and have always wanted to do. I’m starting to do some consulting work in the nutrition/fitness/blogging/social media area and am loving it! I want to continue this and who knows, maybe it will turn into something really big and great!

Be more forgiving… of myself. My husband is always getting on to me about this. He says I am really hard on myself and I know he’s right. I have a really hard time always comparing myself and feeling like I’m not doing what others are doing and I’m not “up to par” with other moms, wives, friends, etc. This needs to stop and is really going to get me nowhere. So I’m going to focus on my what I’m GOOD at, pat myself on the back more, and forgive myself for when I don’t do something perfectly.

I already know 2016 is going to bring some great things – most importantly a son into our family which I’m very excited for. I look forward to hopefully “rolling with the punches” throughout the year and enjoying every moment.
