22 Week Update – Baby #2

I thought I would give a little update on how pregnancy is going so far. I am 22 weeks (and 3 days if we want to get technical) right now so well into the second trimester and over halfway there! Overall, I’m feeling pretty good except for some minor aches and pains from the growing belly. I feel like it really grew over the past week or so.

Nutrition

I am eating pretty well. I generally eat healthy but definitely crave some “bad” foods once in a while. I’m not as good on weekends because that’s when we tend to eat out at restaurants and I just can’t help myself ordering something great on the menu that is usually not a healthy choice. Oops! But, everything in moderation! I eat eggs almost every day and have been craving salty things. I also like protein a lot. This is different from my first pregnancy – I craved more sweet things then.

Exercise

Still running! Slowing down a little bit but definitely still going and feeling good about it. On the days when I run I actually feel better overall and have more energy (which is normal when I’m not pregnant too). This past weekend I did a 4 mile run on Saturday and a 3 mile run on Sunday then some arm and leg exercises. I plan to keep this up as long as I can but if I start to feel like it’s too much I will obviously stop. At this point, I just hope to keep going for 6 more weeks until I get to my third trimester. Then I will re-assess how I feel and what workouts I want to continue to do.

Weight Gain

So with all this nutrition and exercise talk, how am I doing with weight gain? I have now gained 13 pounds but I have a feeling it will be 14 by the end of this week. I will fully admit that it’s hard to see the scale creeping up each week but I know it’s for a great reason. I feel like I have gained more than I actually have but my doctor said that’s normal. She also warned me that I will probably be more uncomfortable this pregnancy since that usually happens the second time around. It is recommended that I gain between 25 – 35 pounds for this pregnancy (same as last) so I am on my way to that range for now.

Baby Room

We’ve made some good progress! The crib and dresser were ordered a couple weeks ago and this past weekend we ordered a glider. I didn’t have a glider with Ady so I ended up having to nurse her on the floor of her room in the middle of the night. I told Brett I will NOT be doing that again! We know that the colors are grey, navy blue, and white with a hint of baseball theme. So I still need to buy some decorations and also a few other items like bottles, another monitor, bibs, etc. We purchased a good amount of clothes too for at least the first couple months.

Emotions

Those pregnancy hormones are definitely kicking in! Almost anything can make me cry these days. I’m also a little worried with how Ady will do with the transition to not being an only child anymore but I think it will be good for her! She LOVES babies which could be a good or a bad thing! She doesn’t seem to like it when other kids get too close to Brett or me so I don’t think she will like having to share her mom and dad at first. It will be fun to see that relationship unfold though.

The baby is healthy and I have had pretty good doctor appointments so far. We had a few hiccups in the beginning but everything is working itself out. Overall, I’m very excited for another little one in our house and our growing family!
