Training for my 4th marathon begins

Marathon Training Has Begun I have signed up to run the Country Music Marathon in Nashville on April 25th.  I’m not sure how sleep deprived I was or if someone slipped something in my coffee that morning, but on a whim, I just decided to sign up and go for it. I ran this same marathon in 2013 and it was definitely the worst weather conditions I have ever run in. It was also my husband’s first marathon.  It was…

Check-In: Six Months Post Baby

Six months.  Our little girl is already 6 months old.  I can’t believe it.  It seems like it’s gone so fast but at the same time, so slow. If you would have asked me 6 months ago where I thought I would be at this point, it’s pretty laughable.  I would tell you that my baby would be completely sleeping through the night, I would be fitting back in my favorite pair of jeans, and would have being Super Mom…

Got 20 minutes? Try this Hills and Sprints Treadmill workout!

It’s that time of year where as winter settles in we spend more time indoors and of course, on the treadmill.  While I am willing to run in fairly cold weather, I draw the line below 30 degrees.  It’s just not fun. So the other day I headed to the gym determined to get a good workout.  I had limited time but wanted something that would keep me interested, challenge me, and make the time go fast. I came up…

Ditch the treadmill and… Sproing!

Should we ditch the treadmill? Well that depends… have you sproinged yet?  That reaction you just had?  I had it too when I first heard of this. What is Sproing you ask?  It looks a little something like this: At least that’s what the machine/contraption is.  I was able to try this out thanks to Sproing and another Chicago blogger, Lake Shore Runner, who set up the event (thank you – such a fun time!).  As usual when I’m trying…

A lesson from my return to HIIT classes

My first workout class since having a baby was a little nerve wracking.  Will I make it?  Am I going to embarrass myself?  Will I pass out?  Will I puke?  In front of everyone? These were all thoughts in my head as I drove to a class nearby to give my first attempt at an HIIT class post baby. (HIIT – High Intensity Interval Training) I took a lot of these classes before having a baby and they were tough. …

Reasons why you shouldn’t hate (and should maybe love) the “dreadmill”

Okay, I get it.  Running outside, for most people, is the more enjoyable way to go.  I’ve heard it all about the dreaded treadmill (hence dreadmill).  You are stuck in one place, it’s boring, there’s no change, etc.  And I agree.  To a point. I LOVE running outside.  I live in Chicago and of all places, this is one of the BEST to go for a run.  There’s nothing like it. But life gets in the way a lot of…
