Don’t ever underestimate who you can learn from!

Normally I post things about food and exercise.  After all, in order to be fit and healthy you need to focus on those things.  But you also need to focus on mental/spiritual health – whatever that may mean to you.  Being healthy in your mind plays a big role on your overall health.  Which leads me to today’s post…

Don’t ever underestimate who you can learn from.

I learned this the other day at work.  An intern did a presentation on happiness and I learned a lot from it.  Not just the things he said but what the things he said made me realize about myself.

I need to work on my happiness.

Normally you think of an intern as someone that you have to teach (well, once you’re not an intern anymore).  You think that you’re sole responsibility is to teach this person the way to do things, show them the ropes, inspire them to be whatever it is they are going to be in life.  But, let’s not forget.  These interns can teach us a lot too.

This intern in particular gave a presentation and spoke of various sources that taught him how to be more positive in life.  He gave us tips on how to reduce stress but he also talked about this idea he read about: write down 3 things that you are thankful for today.  It could be anything.  I was stuck for a second and then immediately thought of some things that made me happy that day.

It’s amazing how quickly your attitude can change when you start to appreciate things.  The small things.  Things that we see or do or hear every day but we don’t take the time to stop and say – I am really thankful for that.

According to this presentation the intern gave you are supposed to repeat this habit for 21 days.  It is supposed to make a big impact on you and make you more positive.

Well, I am going to try it.  So, beginning today I will post every day for the next 21 days (today being day 1) about three things that I am thankful for that day.

And remember, it can be anything.

It is something quick that doesn’t require a lot of time but can hopefully make a big impact.

So, here it goes…

DAY 1:

  1. Water – water is my absolute favorite drink by far.  There is nothing like a big, cold glass of water to me.  It’s refreshing, it’s good for you, and provides so many benefits.  However, I don’t take enough time to realize that I should be thankful for this.
  2. Rain.  Rain often gets a bad rap.  But, I realized today after it rained that it’s sometimes refreshing and it’s nice to have rain.  I appreciate having rain – and other various forms of weather.
  3. A husband that listens.  I have been going through some personal things lately and it’s so nice to have a husband that I can talk to and he actually listens.  He hears me and gives me great advice.  I don’t tell him enough how much I appreciate him just listening to my day.

I want to encourage you to follow along in my health journey through what I learn and experience. I hope there is something you can take away from Fit Busy Female that inspires you to start taking control of your health and feeling better every day.
