A lesson from my return to HIIT classes

My first workout class since having a baby was a little nerve wracking.  Will I make it?  Am I going to embarrass myself?  Will I pass out?  Will I puke?  In front of everyone? These were all thoughts in my head as I drove to a class nearby to give my first attempt at an HIIT class post baby. (HIIT – High Intensity Interval Training) I took a lot of these classes before having a baby and they were tough. …

Reasons why you shouldn’t hate (and should maybe love) the “dreadmill”

Okay, I get it.  Running outside, for most people, is the more enjoyable way to go.  I’ve heard it all about the dreaded treadmill (hence dreadmill).  You are stuck in one place, it’s boring, there’s no change, etc.  And I agree.  To a point. I LOVE running outside.  I live in Chicago and of all places, this is one of the BEST to go for a run.  There’s nothing like it. But life gets in the way a lot of…

Breastfeeding, Milk Supply, and Running

Since I talked about breastfeeding in my last blog, I figured I should cover another topic about the subject.  And it’s something I have been asked about. Running and breastfeeding. I was initially concerned that once I started running and working out again my milk supply would decrease dramatically.  A lot of your supply depends on calories.  I would be burning a lot more calories so I wasn’t sure what this would do.  I had read that sometimes it can…

What they didn’t tell you – when breastfeeding DOESN’T help you lose weight

The woman’s body is a tricky little thing.  It’s fascinating actually how it works.  I realized this even more after having a baby.  The fact that my body can produce a human is pretty insane.  The fact that I then produce milk to provide for my baby just adds to it.  We all know that breastfeeding provides great benefits to your baby.  And one of the things I heard most while pregnant was how it will get you back to…

Making Dinner Simple: Theme Nights!

(A Meatless Monday dish I made!) Trying to decide what to eat for dinner is the biggest decision in our house.  It takes us forever to decide what to eat!  I’m not sure why but my husband would probably say it’s my fault for being so indecisive.  And he’s probably right! I’m the type of eater where I can eat the same things over and over.  I know – boring!  But I just can.  I know what I like…

That feeling of “I’m back”

Have you seen that Friends episode where Phoebe wants to go running with Rachel and Rachel is embarrassed because Phoebe runs really awkward and all over the place?  That’s how I felt when I first starting running again after having my baby.  I felt like people were looking at me like I was a crazy person running by.  Everything felt loose and weird.  It was like I was in a completely different person’s body. I felt like this for a…
